July 2023 Update – we are needed one last time!
Great news but it’s not over
Council released the Final Plan and there’s great news – the grassed areas are staying! The Plan includes a litter trap at the Forest Rd Drain, and there is
No Wetland/ Stormwater treatment plant!
This is great news for the community. We can keep enjoying the big grass area for all of the complementary uses such as playing football, flying kites, meeting our friends, walking our dogs, and riding our bikes.
But it’s not quite over.
The Council officers will provide the Final Plan to the Council meeting on 24th July. The Councillors have to vote on the Plan.
Join us in contacting the Councillors and tell them to agree with the Plan because it reflects what the community want.
We met with some of the Councillors this week – and we think there is still a strong desire from others to have a wetland in the Reserve. This is against the results of the April 2021 consultation that showed:
10 comments in Favour of a wetland and 92 comments Disagreed with the wetland. That’s 90% of people who responded wanted to keep the grassed areas and did not want a wetland.
The Council community consultation over the last year also says only 1 out of 71 responses said a wetland could help improve water quality (Page 84 of 454 Council Agenda).
80% of the responses said they wanted more work to clean up the existing Drain by removal of the weeds and debris (Page 90 of 454 Council Agenda).
The community has been clear about wanting to keep the grassed areas. The community is clear about No Wetland.
Please email the Councillors saying you agree with the Final Plan and it should be approved by the Councillors.

We’re very pleased our voices have been heard and we hope we can enjoy the park the way it is. Contact us if you want to know more.
